In its old days AMD launched the FX CPUs in 2011 which were made for servers used in offices, schools, stations, etc. These Processors were made to fightback Intel's Xeon server Processors and they were good in performance as they had more Cache and were a bit fast but had very hot temperatures and required a large amount of power. Now after approximately 9 years later after the launch of newer Ryzen Processors and Intel 10th gen Processors, do they even provide some performance and value while being compared to them and should you buy one in 2020, we will see this today. Today I have tested FX 8350 from this CPU family.

The AMD FX 8350 was launched on 23 October, 2012 about 8 years ago. It comes with 8 cores and 8 threads ( it has actually 4 physical cores and those modules have 2 cores each but not separately thus they perform like different cores ). It comes with a Base Clock Frequency of 4.0 GHz and up to 4.2 GHz according to AMD but you can easily exceed its Clock Speed to 4.5 to 4.8 GHz if you have a good motherboard and powerful cooling system because it is basically fire ( yes a guy has had overclocked it to 8 GHz something but do not try this at home with liquid Nitrogen cooling system ). It has 8 MB l3 Cache and a huge TDP of 125 W which is even more than a Ryzen 9 3900x. It is based on the Piledriver Architecture which is like a child to its older gen Bulldozer Processors. The processing technology used is based on 32 nm process technology and it is supported by the motherboards with AM3+ socket like 990FX, M5A78L-M, etc motherboards. It can support upto 64 GB DDR3 RAM depending on the motherboard which are clocked at 1866 MHz Frequency.
The AMD FX 8350 can be overclocked as its unlocked processor but i am using it on its Base Clock Frequency which is 4.0 GHz as it gets heated easily and becomes an oven from a CPU. It is paired with 16 GB DDR3 RAM clocked at 1600 MHz Frequency ( 1866 will perform a little better ) and an AMD Radeon RX 570 ( don't use any card further if you are not overclocking as you will get bottleneck in many games ). I have compared it with AMD Ryzen 3 1200. Cinebench r15 is tested along with games at 1920*1080 p Full HD Resolution with max settings.
These Benchmarks show the comparison between the AMD RX 830 and AMD RYZEN 3 1200. The FX 8350 has more multi core score so it is more powerful for multi tasking than Ryzen 3 1200 afterall it is a server CPU and also it is better than Ryzen 3 1200 in gaming too. The old FX 8350 beats Ryzen 3 1200 in every thing except power consumption as it has giant power consumption of 125W which is too much more than Ryzen 3 1200 and it is super hot and even if you find it cheaper than Ryzen 3 in used market then still the motherboards are expensive.
In other words if you want to buy a budget gaming PC then please do not buy the FX 8350 as you can by the new Ryzen 3 3100 which is better than it and if you alredy have and do normal gaming and light multicore tasks then can use it for more time.
