Athlon 200GE | Specs, Price, Performance with benchmarks

AMD is just creating wonders with its ZEN Microarchitecture based Ryzen CPUs and APUs. AMD is able to provide us with good Processors at a good range but AMD has another lineup for cheap ZEN APUs which are the Athlon GE and G APUs.

AMD launched these APUs around 2 years ago in September 2018. These APUs have mainly GE in the last except the Athlon 3000G which I reviewed some time ago.

The main reason AMD launched Athlon 200GE was to battle the Intel's entry level Pentium CPU's and at even lower price than it. These APUs were made for those people who wanted to build a computer but had very little budget. Most importantly it came with an integrated graphics (ofcourse it will come afterall it is an APU) which was much powerful than Pentium G4560 (its competitor). A table in which the specifications of Athlon 200GE and Ryzen 3 1200 are compared is given below.

It was launched at price of 55 dollars back in 2018 but now it can be easily found for 50 dollars. Just as I told it was mainly made for people who had very less budget, so it is not made for extreme tasks but still I will tell you would it be worth to buy this APU in 2020?

The AMD Athlon 200GE was launched on September 6th 2018. It is a low power consumption, entry level APU launched by AMD. It comes with 2 physical cores and 4 logical cores/threads (it has Hyperthreading). It comes with a Base clock of 3.2 GHz and was said to be locked but you can Overclock it upto 3.8 GHz (i don't know exactly as I overclocked it upto 3.7 GHz only:/). So you can say it is Unlocked. It is based on ZEN Microarchitecture and fabricated on 14nm FinFET technology. It has total of 4 MB L3 Cache and 35 W TDP.

It supports AMD's AM4 Socket and you can pair it with motherboards like A320, B450, B350, etc (you may use any AM4 motherboard, even the cheapest like A320 but you won't be able to overclock the APU).For memory you can use upto 32 GB RAM (RAM size depends on motherboards) which is clocked to 2667 MHz just like the other first Generation ZEN Processors.

It comes with an integrated graphics (afterall it's an APU) which is the Radeon VEGA 3 Graphics. The integrated graphics VEGA 3 has 3 graphical cores and it is locked on 1000 MHz (yes you can't overclock the VEGA 3 graphics). As it has an integrated graphics so you don't need to pair it with a dedicated graphics card for display.

Now that i have told you about the specifications of Athlon 200GE, its time for the benchmarks as no review is a review without benchmarks.

For the benchmarks, I have paired the Athlon 200GE with a Geforce GTX 1050 Ti which works really good with it and 16 GB dual channel 3000 MHz DDR4 RAM (APU supports 2667 MHz RAM maximum). Cinebench R15 and 5 games are tested at 1080p lowest settings with GTX 1050 Ti and VEGA 3 Graphics.

Benchmarks

As you can see it scored 127 points in Cinebench R15 Singlecore tests and 360 points in Cinebench R15 Multicore test. Well none of the scores is good for today's standards but you are getting such performance for 50 dollars and with an integrated graphics. You can increase the gaming performance by pairing it a graphics card like GTX 1050 TI and RX 560 so that you will not any kind of bottleneck on 1080p resolution (any thing further will be bottlenecked by your processor).

In the end i will say this APU is pretty good for its price/performance under 50 dollars. You are getting an okay performance from the CPU and a GPU with which you can easily play E-sports titles and some other games at low settings.

If you have budget around $150 - $200, then get it and pair it on a cheap AM4 motherboard like A320, 8 GB DDR4 RAM (getting dual channel would be much better than single channel), a branded PSU (atleast 450W for future proof Pc), something for storage and a super cheap cabinet. Your PC is ready!
